Oludeniz
Even tourists who have never been to Turkey are likely to have seen a photograph online or in travel promotion literature of the Blue Lagoon and Oludeniz Beach on the Turquoise Coast. The sea really is that blue! If we collect you at Dalaman Airport for your first visit to Oludeniz we will confirm it if we are asked. Oludeniz is a small resort that has developed close to the larger Turkish town of Fethiye.
Above and Below
Oludeniz literally means 'Dead Sea' in Turkish; there will be nothing dead in a holiday on this coastline. The name was given because the waters always seem so calm. It sits below the impressive Babadag Mountain off which paragliders test their skills. They seem to be gliding for hours before landing on solid ground. It is not for the faint-hearted buy if you fancy it you can go in a double harness with an experienced glider.
There is plenty to do under the sea as well. Qualified scuba divers are welcome to hire equipment from local dive companies to explore the underwater caves. There may not be the variety of fish seen on coral reefs but diving here is very rewarding. If you have never dived before you have 2 choices. The first is to stick to snorkelling but the second is to take your certificate to become qualified yourself.
The lagoon is a protected area so there will never be any construction on the site. Indeed the restriction on development has led to the growth of a nearby resort, Hisonaru, which has a number of night time attractions for locals and tourists alike. There are plenty of bars of course and many kinds of cuisine. English breakfasts are now common with Chinese and Indian food available as well. However it would be wrong to come on a holiday to Oludeniz and not try at least some of the local dishes. This is an extremely fertile part of Turkey with fruit and vegetables changing with the season.

Day Trips
There are a few ideas for day trips that you might like to consider. Obviously one of the best is a day at sea. There is the 12 Islands' Tour from the main harbour in Fethiye which goes around a number of the uninhabited islands with plenty of chance to swim. Lunch is included though you buy your own drinks.
An interesting alternative is to take a dolmus (cheap local mini bus) into Fethiye. Go on market day, Tuesday and then call at the Fish Market in town. You buy your fresh fish from one of the central stalls and get it cooked in one of the restaurants that surround the stalls.
There are plenty of other alternatives if you are staying at Oludeniz. You need not worry that if you don't spend time in the sun you won't get that tan. It is more likely that if you spend too much time in the sun you will be burnt. Be careful and don't spoil your holiday.
